How to Customize Signature Placement and Signing Information with DocuSign
Learn how to control signature placement and customize signing details in your templates using Precisely’s DocuSign integration.
Integrating Precisely + DocuSign allows you to automate where and how signing information appears in your documents using anchors.
In this article, you'll learn in which ways you can automate your templates to have signing fields in the placement of your choice.
Note: For a general overview of the integration, see the dedicated DocuSign integration article.
How It Works
You can define signature placement by adding DocuSign anchors to your template document.
This allows you to:
- Choose where signing information appears
- Add signatures to every page
1. Choose the Location of Signing Information
You have three options:
A. Default Signing Table (Default Location)
By default, Precisely adds a signing table to the end of the document when it is sent for signing.
- One row is created per signee
- Includes name, email, signature, and signing date
- Role and organization are optional
No setup is required in your template to use this option.

B. Default Signing Table (Custom Location)
To place the default signing table somewhere else in the document:
-
Insert the anchor:
[DOCUSIGN_TABLE]
- Ensure:
- The anchor is on its own line
- No extra spaces or characters are included
- It is not placed inside tables, lists, or conditional blocks

C. Fully Custom Signing Fields (Custom Layout)
For full control, you can place individual signing fields anywhere in the document using anchors.
Available anchors (example for first signee):
[DOCUSIGN_SIGNATURE_1]– Signature[DOCUSIGN_FULL_NAME_1]– Full name[DOCUSIGN_EMAIL_1]– Email[DOCUSIGN_ROLE_1]– Role[DOCUSIGN_ORGANIZATION_1]– Organization[DOCUSIGN_DATE_1]– Signing date
For additional signees, increment the number (e.g., _2, _3).
Important! Remove the default signing table by adding the anchor:
[DOCUSIGN_NO_TABLE]
This ensures only your custom fields are used.
Example 1 - Custom signing fields in an invisible table:

Example 2 - Combining custom signing information with Precisely references and additional text

What Happens to Empty Fields?
If a field is not filled in:
- The corresponding anchor is automatically removed
- No empty placeholders remain in the final document
Examples:
- Missing role →
[DOCUSIGN_ROLE_1]disappears - Fewer signees than anchors → unused anchors are removed
Example - Signed document with anchors configured for three signees, including role and organization. Since company information was not provided for the first signee, role information was not provided for the second signee, and no third signee was added, all unused anchors were automatically removed from the document:
2. Add Signatures to Every Page
You can require signatures on every page by adding a footer anchor.
To enable:
-
Insert this anchor at the very end of the document:
[DOCUSIGN_FOOTER]
- Ensure:
- It is the last element in the document
- No spaces or characters follow it
This will add a signing table to the footer of each page.

Note: This is an optional feature and works in addition to your main signing setup.
Using External Documents
If you upload an external document (not generated from a Precisely template):
- Anchors cannot be used
- Signature placement is not predefined
- Signees can place signatures and fields freely
This can lead to inconsistent or unclear signing experiences.
Recommendation
For external documents, use the Send to DocuSign feature to:
- Open the document in DocuSign
- Manually configure signature fields and placement
