[Working with References](https://help.precisely.se/en/automated-templates-documents?hsLang=en#working-with-references) # How Can I Use References to Populate a Signee List? ## Learn how to use questionnaire answers to populate signee details When setting up **Default Signees**, you can use references to automatically populate variable signee information while drafting the project (when answering the questionnaire). This is particularly useful when working with external signees, as the person signing will often vary from contract to contract. #### 1. Create questions and references for the signee information First, create references for the information you want to collect about each signee. A **name** and **email address** are required, while **organisation** and **job title** are optional. The following reference types can be used: - **Short text type references** can populate the **Name**, **Organisation**, and **Job title** fields. - **Email type references** can populate the **Email** field. #### 2. Add the references to the Default Signees In the **Default Signees** section, add the appropriate references to the signee fields.
